How many of you will get in the groove of working out consistently, only to miss a few days, and completely fall off? Unfortunately, that is the story of so many of our lives. Usually, the only thing missing is the motivation to get back at it. Here are 5 tips to keep you motivated and out of those infamous “workout ruts”.

1. Find a BFF (Best Fitness Friend) – Having a workout partner or teaming up with a friend can be a lot of fun and definitely be the thing that helps you find your motivation. On the days, when you’re not feeling it (but know you should), lean on your workout buddy to hold you accountable and get moving. It’s hard to flake on a workout when you know someone is depending on you. That alone is motivation enough to get your butt to the gym.
2. Participate in Group Fitness – I’ve always loved group fitness. There’s something about others being in the trenches with me that gives me that extra little push I need to get through a workout. Whether we want to admit it or not, there’s always someone you’re gunning for, trying to keep up with, or is your inspiration to keep coming back. Gyms like Barry’s Bootcamp, Mayweather Boxing & Fitness or local trainers who hosts bootcamps are all ways to get involved. I was a member at a gym that specialized in group HIIT classes for 2 years and it was one of the biggest gamechangers in my fitness journey.
3. Sign up for a workout challenge – If you’re anything like me, then you need to feel like you’re working towards something. Yes, when we work out, we are working towards being healthy and fit. But sometimes, we need an extra push to get there. I’m talking about something with an end goal, or something with a deadline. For example, I joined a challenge on Instagram called the #Stayfit200 Challenge. This is a community of people who have accepted this annual challenge to workout 200 times for at least 30 minutes. This alone has kept me on my game and motivated me to reach that number.
4. Be a Goal Getter – Sometimes our biggest competitors are ourselves. Only we know what we want out of our fitness journey. That’s why it’s helpful to set specific goals for yourself. Our goals can be as small as squatting 10 more pounds or as big as finishing a marathon. Either way, when you have a goal in mind, you’re going to work hard to achieve it.
5. Keep it Simple – Working out doesn’t always have to look like heavy lifting, long runs, and hours of work. Many of us barely have enough energy to get through our normal workday. The everyday hustle and bustle can leave you feeling like you have nothing left in the tank. And those are the days when you are likely to opt out of your workout. When that feeling starts to creep in, make a commitment to get moving. Whether it’s yoga, getting in some much-needed stretching, or going for a walk, you’re still keeping your promise to yourself and rewarding your body.
